Another option is to place an aluminum baking dish on the bottom of the grill and place the Sear'd in that and the coals around the dish.

Something heavy like a whole chicken the best way is to use a sturdy spatula and place it under the Sear'd in combination with tongs to hold the chicken to move. For lighter foods a single pair of tongs can be used to remove the food and the Sear'd skewer form the base or you can use a sturdy spatula under the plate and a hot pad holder to grab the tip of the skewer.
